Forgiveness
Forgiveness
12 × 16 inches | Mixed Media on 300 lb. Watercolor Paper | Reiki-Infused | Matted + Framed
There are things we carry for so long that we begin to mistake their weight for part of who we are.
Stories formed before we were old enough to question them. Wounds that quietly became beliefs. Beliefs that followed us into adulthood and whispered that we were unlovable, unworthy, undeserving—that perhaps the ways we were abandoned or hurt were somehow evidence of who we were rather than reflections of what happened to us.
Forgiveness was born from finally beginning to put some of those stories down.
Created after a profound breakthrough in hypnotherapy and a deep clearing of wounds carried since childhood, this piece emerged from one word that continued to rise to the surface:
Forgiveness.
Not the kind of forgiveness that asks us to forget.
Not the kind that excuses what happened, makes peace with the unacceptable or asks the wounded parts of ourselves to pretend they were never hurt.
The kind that releases us from having to carry it anymore.
Deep teal gathers and pools across the paper like memory held in the body, meeting softer washes of aqua, pale blue and open, untouched space. Through it all moves gold—luminous, imperfect and impossible to contain. It does not erase the darkness. It moves alongside it, through it and beyond it, as though something precious that had always been there is finally being revealed.
There is grief here, but there is also reclamation.
There is the child who learned to question her worth and the woman who can finally tell her she never needed to. There is the pain of abandonment alongside the realization that someone else's inability to love us well was never proof that we were unlovable. There is anger, tenderness, compassion, release and the extraordinary lightness that comes when an old story begins to loosen its grip.
Because forgiveness does not have to mean it was okay.
Sometimes forgiveness simply means:
It no longer gets to decide who I am.
Sometimes healing is returning what was never ours to carry. Sometimes it is recognizing how much of our lives have been shaped by stories written for us before we had the language to write our own. Sometimes it is looking at the younger version of ourselves who believed all those terrible things and finally saying, Sweet girl, none of that was ever true.
And perhaps that is the freedom inside Forgiveness: we do not have to erase our past in order to release ourselves from it.
The darkness can remain part of the story.
The wounds can be real.
And still, the gold was there all along.
Luminous.
Worthy.
Free.
Matted and framed, Forgiveness is an original Reiki-infused work created as part of the evolving Heart Space Studio collection—a celebration of the beautifully complex heart and an invitation to release what was never ours to carry, reclaim what has always belonged to us and make space for the lightness that follows.
