There are places in our lives that cannot be named by where we have been or where we are going.
They exist somewhere in between—the strange, exquisite territory where an old version of ourselves has begun to dissolve, yet whatever is coming next has not fully taken form. Between Worlds was born from that liminal space.
Created at a dramatically larger scale than my previous works on paper, Between Worlds unfolds in sweeping passages of midnight indigo, brilliant turquoise, watery cerulean and luminous white, punctuated by unexpected flashes of warm metallic copper. Pigment pools, stretches and collides across the surface, creating formations that feel simultaneously oceanic, geological and celestial—shorelines viewed from impossible heights, fragments of stone beneath water, clouds opening across another planet, entire landscapes appearing and disappearing depending upon where the eye chooses to wander.
And perhaps that is what I love most about this piece: there is no single world here.
There are dozens.
Before I begin creating, I prepare my paints and paper with Reiki, then settle into meditation and allow whatever I am carrying, questioning, feeling or becoming to enter the process with me. From there, painting becomes something closer to surrender—a conversation between intention and instinct, between my hands and the materials, between what I believe I am creating and what ultimately asks to emerge.
At 31 × 36 inches, that conversation was given room to expand.
The scale invited larger gestures, deeper pools of pigment and sweeping movements that could not have existed within the boundaries of my smaller work. Yet tucked within that vastness are delicate details: metallic passages catching the light, feathery edges where colors meet, tiny islands and unexpected formations that reward closer looking.
Between Worlds is an exploration of transition, uncertainty and becoming—the reminder that the space between what was and what will be is not an empty one. It is fertile. Mysterious. Alive.
Sometimes we are not lost at all.
Sometimes we are simply between worlds.
